January 2023 Meeting

This month, the Dunfermline Historical Society is holding a musical evening of Burns songs and other folk songs. We are delighted to have visiting us again John Blackwood and Kinrick as well as Fiona Forbes from Sangsters.
As usual we meet at the Abbey Church Halls in Abbey Park Place and all are welcome.

“The Stuart Widows” by Susan Morrison
Susan Morrison is well known to the members to the Dunfermline Historical Society. She presents Time Travels on BBC Radio Scotland, and has spoken to us before, when in December 2018, she told us the story of the 18th Century “witch”, Lilias Adie. We are absolutely delighted to have her back, presenting a talk which was re-arranged from November.
As usual we meet in the Abbey Church Halls, Abbey Park Place, and non-members are very welcome.

October 2022 Meeting

This month we have Jim Leishman, who will be giving us his talk “From Ball to Chain”.
Footballer, renowned Football Manager, local politician and Provost, for all of us who are familiar with Dunfermline, Jim really is someone who needs no introduction and after several Covid delays, we are delighted that he is joining us this month.
The Lowland Canals
Our first meeting of the new session is on Thursday, 15th September, when Ian Scott will speak on “The Lowland Canals”.
Ian Scott was Assistant Principal at Falkirk College and has been Director and National Chairman of the Saltire Society. Ian’s main interest is the history of the Falkirk area and he was a founder member of Falkirk Local History Society. He has written several books on the subject including Falkirk: a History published in 2006 and over 400 historical articles for the Falkirk Herald.
Ian has visited us before when, in October 2019, he spoke on James Watt.
As usual, we meet in the Abbey Church Halls at 7:30pm and visitors will be welcome.
