April 2020 Outing
Heart of Midlothian
Our first trip this year will be on Saturday 4th April and will visit two contrasting sites in Midlothian. Our first destination is Newbattle Abbey. The Abbey started life as a Cistercian monastery with links to Dunfermline Abbey, later became a stately home, and then an educational establishment. As parts of the building are still in use today as an adult education college, we will be given guided tours of the buildings and gardens, before enjoying a soup and sandwich lunch.
Next we move a couple of miles to The National Mining Museum of Scotland located at the former Lady Victoria Colliery at Newtongrange. Here, we will be free to explore this extensive site and the museum galleries. Audioguides are included and there is, of course, also a cafe.
The trip will leave from the Glen Car Park, Pittencrieff Street at 9:00 am and the cost will be £40 which covers transport, entry, tours and lunch at Newbattle and entry to the NMMS. Please note there will be no stop for High Tea on this trip and for insurance purposes, trips are now open to DHS members only. Please complete your booking forms and return them to the Treasurer by Saturday 29th February. Full details of payment are on your forms.
