Our Logo

 

The society’s logo was drawn in 1996 by the well known St Andrews artist Jurek Putter and was subsequently coloured by Cherry Allan. On the right hand side of the flagpole it shows King David I wearing a crown and sword and carrying a mace over his shoulder. His right hand is touching a representation of Dunfermline Abbey which, of course, he founded. The figure on the left is a monk of the abbey. He carries a bag of seed grain, holds an agricultural implement over his shoulder. His hand rests on a book, close to an inkwell and pen showing both the practical and intellectual aspects of monastic life. On the right of the Abbey is a “Golden Rose”, symbolising a blessing from the Pope. The standard depicts the arrival of St Margaret in Scotland.
